Exhibition The fascination of folk music

For 50 years, the Alpine Folk Music Competition in Innsbruck has been a magical attraction for thousands of folk music enthusiasts from all over the Alps. Why is that? Why does folk music fascinate people in times of AI and globalisation? Why does this type of music in particular convey such great joie de vivre and is able to harmonise tradition and cultural diversity by making music together? The special exhibition ‘The Fascination of Folk Music - 50 Years of the Alpine Folk Music Competition’ in the House of Music provides comprehensive answers to these exciting questions and explores the topic of folk music in a variety of ways. The Alpine Folk Music Competition has played a key role in shaping the development of folk music in the Alpine region and has been helping to combine tradition and modernity for decades, building bridges between different regions and musical styles, between young and old and focussing on what unites them. Highlights of the exhibition are certainly the audio station with sound recordings from the last 50 years, insights into the huge picture archive and film documentation, as well as an exhibition of traditional costumes and instruments.

The exhibition can be seen free of charge from 27 May to 19 October 2024 during the opening hours of the ticket office and subscription service at the Haus der Musik in Innsbruck. Information about the opening hours: www.haus-der-musik-innsbruck.at
