Rosskogel via the north ridge

1267 M 1.267 M
15 KM 15 KM

This impressive mountain hike starts at an altitude of 1,383 metres above sea level in the car park (fees apply) in Stiglreith. You can get to the car park by taking the panoramic Panoramastraße road, which branches off to the right from Oberperfuss Berg. If the Bergbahnen Oberperfuss gondolas are running, we recommend taking the gondola up to Stiglreith and then Gondola II from there up to Sulzstich at 1,560 m. This saves you 40 minutes by cutting out the hike from Stiglreith to Sulzstich. The route starts by following the road towards the Rosskogelhütte mountain hut. When you come to the last bend before the hut, follow the yellow signs to the Krimpenbachalm. This idyllic trail leads through alpine pastures with views of Rosskogel mountain. From the Krimpenbachsattel col (1,899 m), experienced hikers with alpine experience and a good head for heights can follow the trail that leads up to the summit of Rosskogel mountain (2,646) via the north ridge. The ridge is a steep climb but the views from the summit make it well-worth the effort. The three-thousand-metre-high peaks of the Stubai Valley feel close enough to touch and the Lüsens Valley is a real eye-catcher directly opposite. To the left and right are many other mountains that are predominantly ski touring destinations. The recommended descent leads east via the "Schartl" col to the Krimpenbachalm mountain hut (not open to the public) and then along a forest road to the Rosskogelhütte mountain hut, which is a good place to take a break. The stunning scenery and views of the Rosskogel mountain make the food and drink at the hut taste even better. From there, the route has great views as it continues down the ski slope to the reservoir and then follows the Geisterwanderweg Ghost Trail back to the starting point in Stiglreith.

This hike starts at the car park and follows the forest road past the barrier to the Straßberghaus mountain hut. Just before the hut, you'll come to a fork in the road where you should turn right to follow the Hintereggensteig trail. The path leads steeply uphill until you come to another crossroads. From there, turn left and hike along the undulating trail until you reach the point where you can collect a stamp. From there, turn right to join the Dengg’n-Edi-Gratlsteig trail and follow it as it climbs quite steeply uphill through mountain pines. You'll come to a short section of the trail that is secured with cables and shortly afterwards, you'll reach a fork in the path. Continue straight on to the summit cross. The hike back follows the same trail down from the Wetterkreuz cross until you come to the first junction. From there, follow signs to the Neue Alplhütte mountain hut and follow the trail as it winds its way down the mountain to the alpine pastures around the Neue Alplhütte mountain hut. Finally, take the forest road back to the Straßberghaus mountain hut and continue on to the car park.

Take the route that leads through the forest towards the Boasligbrücke bridge. This good gravel path zigzags up the mountain and covers quite a few vertical metres. From the Boasligbrücke bridge, take the Pfarrer-Kathrein-Steig trail towards Henneberg and then continue along a varied and relatively steep path up to the Gachen Blick viewpoint. Summit tour: Hohe Munde

1601 M 1.601 M
13 KM 13 KM

The hike up Hohe Munde mountain starts at the Straßberg car park and leads along a forest road, past the barrier, towards the Straßberghaus mountain hut. Just before the hut, you'll come to a fork in the road where you should turn right to follow the Hintereggensteig trail, which takes you steeply uphill to another crossroads. From there turn right again to follow the trail that zigzags up through a dense pine forest to the Niedere Munde (2,059 m). From the Niedere Munde, the route leads east over two hills covered in mountain pines and a long ridge towards the summit. The trail continues from there through Rauhe Valley. This part of the route includes a few climbing sections secured with wire ropes (note: a good head for heights is required). You then come to the summit area and the summit cross of the western summit (2,662 m). From the west summit, follow the marked path eastwards over stepped terrain into a depression then follow the route back up to a flat plateau and the east summit (2,592 m). The route then continues down the steep eastern face of the mountain to the Rauthhütte mountain hut. From the Rauthhütte, you can take a root-laced trail down through the forest to the Buchner Höhe car park or follow the forest road to the Rauthhütte/Mundestadl car park. Tips | notes: Summit tour, take plenty of water with you (there isn't anywhere to refill water along the route), sure-footedness and a good head for heights are required. Doing the tour with a mountain guide is recommended. Before starting the hike, a second car should be parked at the Buchner Höhe car park or the Rauthhütte/Mundestadl car park so you can drive back to the starting point at the Straßberghaus car park at the end of your tour.
