A hike up in the mountains with stunning views that is particularly popular when the alpine roses are in bloom. Route no. 14a. Start from the bottom lift station at Bergbahnen Oberperfuss and take the Peter-Anich gondolas first to Stiglreith at 1,363 metres above sea level and then up to Sulzstich at 1,560 metres above sea level. This is the start of the circular hike around Rangger Köpfl, walking time about 1.5 hours. Follow the forest road to Krimpenbachsattel (1,899 m) and then turn right to continue up to the summit cross on Rangger Köpfl (1,939 m). From there, follow the signs north to the Alpenrosensteig trail and follow it downhill to the Rosskogelhütte mountain hut. Plenty of benches await along the way where you can stop for a relaxing break and the trail offers unique views of the Inn Valley. From the Rosskogelhütte, you can take the ski slope or the forest road back to the starting point. If the gondolas are closed, you can start the hike at Stiglreith car park (fees apply). From there, it takes 1.5 hours to walk to the Rosskogelhütte mountain hut. Highlights: A popular high-altitude hike above the tree line, wonderful when the alpine roses are in bloom in June, passes a summit cross and has unique views of the Inn Valley and the surrounding mountains. This hike starts behind the Pfaffenhofer Alm mountain hut (=Widdersbergalm) and zigzags ever higher up the mountain. After about 45 minutes, you will come to a turnoff. Follow the signs towards Sonnkarköpfl. Once the trail leaves the forest, it continues over barren terrain, first on a north-facing slope and later through a corrie on a south-western slope up to the summit. From the Sonnkarköpfl peak, hike back the same way until you reach the turnoff that leads east to the "Oberhofer Melkalm". This section takes you downhill over vast fields of alpine roses to the Sonnkarhütte mountain hut (not open to the public) and then over alpine meadows to the Oberhofer Melkalm mountain hut. Finally, take the Bettlersteig trail that starts behind the hut and follow it back to the starting point at the Pfaffenhofer Alm mountain hut (=Widdersbergalm). Tips | notes: It is possible to get a driving permit (fees apply) from the local authority in Pfaffenhofen. This saves you about 2.5 hours of walking time. The journey is possible in a normal car. Please note: after heavy rainfall, the road is difficult to drive and an all-terrain vehicle is recommended.

From Arzkasten car park, hike past the guesthouse of the same name, turn right after the fountain and then follow the forest road north towards the Lehnberghaus mountain hut. After about 15 minutes, you will come to a fork in the road. Take the left hand path that turns off before the bridge and continue along the "Bachweg" trail through the forest. The path provides plenty of opportunities to enjoy impressive views of the Mieming Range, for example the Wankspitze peak (2,209 m). After just under an hour, the trail turns sharply right, away from the stream, and a short but quite steep path leads straight up to a forest road. From there, it's only a few metres to the Lehnberghaus mountain hut. For the hike back, you can either double back along the same route or follow the forest road. From the Lehnberghaus, a hiking trail leads uphill towards "Lacke", first climbing up through alpine meadows and then continuing through the forest. When you arrive at Lacke, you'll find a giant picture frame and an impressive viewing platform with views that stretch far along the Inn Valley and over the Mieming Plateau. From Lacke, you continue towards Wankspitze peak. Hike north along the wooded ridge and follow the trail as it snakes upwards and finally follows the final ridge right up to the summit cross. The Wankspitze is located in front of the rugged peaks of the Mieming Range and displays high alpine character. It offers fantastic views over the Mieming Plateau, along the Inn Valley to Innsbruck and south to the Stubai Alps.

On one side, you look south over the city of Innsbruck, the Inn Valley and the landscapes beyond. In the other direction, rugged rocks reach as far as the eye can see: you are standing at the gateway to the Karwendel mountains and looking deep into the Alps. The hike from the mountain lift station up to the summit cross is not very strenuous. However, good footwear is essential.

The route is marked and signposted throughout as the Peter-Anich-Höhensteig. The hike takes you through wonderful high alpine landscapes with unique views. Water bottles can be filled at the huts with the purest spring water.
