The Sellrain Valley Mountain Hut Tour: stage 6

The second-to-last stage first follows route no. 149 up to the Mittertaler Scharte col and then heads back down through the Mitter Valley to the Dortmunder Hütte mountain hut at 1,950 metres above sea level. This difficult stage has an elevation gain of 500 metres and an elevation loss of almost 700 metres. Walking time: 4 hours Joining options: Follow road number 13 from Innsbruck or road number 237 from Ochsengarten to the Dortmunder Hütte mountain hut in Kühtai. Take regional bus no. 4166 from Innsbruck to Kühtai.

The Sellrain Valley Mountain Hut Tour: stage 7

The grand finale of the Mountain Hut Tour starts from the Dortmunder Hütte mountain hut and leads back to the starting point in Sellrain. First, you hike to the village of Kühtai. This ski resort can be very busy in winter but in summer, it's nice and peaceful. From there, the route continues down to the Zirmbachalm mountain hut at an altitude of 1,800 metres above sea level and then back up to the Sonnbergalm mountain hut at 1,950 metres above sea level. Finally, you follow the Sellraintaler Höhenwanderweg trail down to the village of Sellrain. This difficult last stage has an elevation gain of over 800 metres and an elevation loss of 1,950 metres. Would you like to save yourself the downhill stretch? If so, you can take the "Postbus" bus and enjoy an effortless journey from Kühtai to Sellrain. If you do the whole stage on foot, the walking time is 9 hours.

The Besinnungsweg (Path of Reflection) in the Sellrain Valley

This hike starts at the parish church of St. Martin in Gries and follows the road to Obermarendebach. From there, it joins a forest trail to the Grubachhöfe farm buildings and then continues to the Sellrain districts of Duregg and Perfall before entering the forest again and following the trail to the Pilgrimage Church of St. Quirin. The route back down to Sellrain starts 20 metres past the church and follows the Kreuzweg trail. This "Path of Reflection" leads past countless farms and viewpoints, as well as many other wonderful places where you can stop to enjoy a relaxing break. At the end of the Kreuzweg trail, turn right to follow the road for a short distance and then left onto the road that leads downhill to the districts of Ausserzehend and Obere Grube. From there, head diagonally downhill to the south and away from the entrance to the valley to the Church of St. Anna in Sellrain.

Senderstal – Kemater Alm – Adolf Pichler Hütte

An easy hike and nice excursion in the idyllic "Senderstal" (Senders Valley) in Grinzens, surrounded by the majestic Kalkkögel mountains. The hike starts in the Kohlstatt district of Grinzens and follows the forest road uphill through the Senders Valley to the Kemater Alm mountain hut (walking time: approx. 2 hours). From there, a hiking trail continues to the higher Adolf Pichler Hütte mountain hut (walking time: approx. 45 minutes).  The hike can be shortened by driving or mountain biking up the "Senderstal Forstweg" forest road (toll for cars - € 3) to the car park at the Kemater Alm and then continuing on foot from there up to the Adolf Pichler Hütte.

Silz - Haiming - Silz

This circular route leads from Silz through the Pirchetwald forest (between Silz and Haiming) to the neighbouring village of Haiming, before continuing through the village to the suburb of Magerbach. In Magerbach, you cross the River Inn on the Magerbachbrücke bridge and then head east along the "Apfelstraße" (named after the numerous apple trees lining the road) at the foot of Simmering mountain and back to the starting point in Silz.

Sistranser Alm mountain hut

Hike from Sistrans to the authentic Sistranser Alm mountain hut. The tour starts with a gentle ascent through the village of Sistrans to the edge of the forest (car park) followed by a continuous winding climb with hairpin bends to the Sistranser Alm mountain hut. From there, you can reach the Aldranser Alm mountain hut by following the Almenweg 1600 trail slightly downhill. Our tip: if you want to cover even more vertical metres, you can continue along a moderately steep path through the high forest to the panoramic Isshütte mountain hut (not open to the public).

Solsteinhaus mountain hut (Alpenverein route 213)

Hochzirl - Pleinerweg - Solsteinhaus (Alpenverein route 213) The quickest way to reach the Solsteinhaus mountain hut is to take the signposted trail from the train station in Hochzirl via Pleiner and Solenalm. The route takes you along hiking paths and forest roads to an altitude of 1,417 metres, where you cross the Oberbach stream. From there, the route zigzags up a steep track to the Solenalm hut (1,643 m, not open to the public), where you get wonderful views of the Erlspitze and Solstein peaks. From there, the route leads north above the Erl Valley, crosses the stream in a north-easterly direction and then continues around two long bends to the mountain hut, which will have been visible up ahead for quite a while.

Sonnalmweg trail

This route leads from the STB tram stop "Natters Hölltal" along Prof.-H.Wopfner-Weg towards the Sonnalm and then through the forest to Nattererboden restaurant. From there, it continues via the Eichhof guesthouse to Natterer See lake.

The Sonnenrainweg trail in Oberperfuss

An idyllic and sunny hiking route with stunning views! The starting point is the lift car park at Bergbahnen Oberperfuss, which is free of charge for anyone using the lift. Take the gondola up to the Stiglreith lift station at an altitude of 1,363 m. This is the start of the hike. Follow the path past the ski hire shop and onto the Panoramastraße road, which you should then follow downhill for approx. 50 metres until you reach the first bend. From there, take the signposted path on your right, which is a secluded trail leading slightly uphill through the forest. Along the way, you will frequently be treated to wonderful views across the valley and of the surrounding mountain landscapes. There are also plenty of benches where you can stop for a relaxing break and enjoy the absolute peace and quiet. After walking for about 45 minutes, you will come to a bench where the wide forest road ends and becomes a mountain path. You can then turn around and follow the same trail slightly downhill back to the starting point with even more enchanting views down over the valley.   Fees apply to park in the car park at Stiglreith. The road to Stiglreith is closed to cars from 1 November until 31 March.

The Speckbacherweg trail

The Speckbacherweg is a path that begins in the village of Tulfes and stays near the lower edge of the forest. It leads past the golf course in Rinn, through alpine meadows and fields to the village of Sistrans, on to the Olympic bobsleigh and luge track in Igls and towards the Goldbichl archaeology trail. The last stretch leads along the edge of the forest above the village of Patsch to St. Peter, where this beautiful and varied hiking trail comes to an end. The Speckbacherweg covers the entire length of the southeastern alpine plateau. It can of course also be walked in the opposite direction, starting in St. Peter/Ellbögen.

The St. Moritzen circuit

This hike starts at the car park in the "Wendelinus" district and follows the lower forest road towards the pilgrimage church of St. Moritzen. The route passes the church and then leads downhill to the crossing for the River Inn's "Innaue" flood plains. Take the path to the right and follow it for a few minutes until you reach a tributary of the River Inn. From the "Innaue" flood plains, follow the same route back until you reach the fork and then carry straight on along the Aulandweg trail towards Telfs. You will come to residential houses on the paved Moritzenstraße road. At the roadside chapel, turn left and follow the Kapellenweg trail to the Kalvarienberg (or calvary hill). Stone steps lead all the way up the inside of the calvary hill to a representation of the Crucifixion at the top. A short path takes you back to the trail that leads from Telfs to the pilgrimage church of St Moritzen and finally back to the starting point.

St. Quirin to the Sellrainer Höhenwanderweg (the Sellrain Valley high-altitude hiking trail)

St. Sigmund - Pforzheimer Hütte mountain hut (145)

This route starts at the car park in St. Sigmund and leads south along the paved road to the Gleirschalm mountain hut (25 min). It then continues past beautiful alpine meadows and mountain streams, leading deep into the Gleirsch Valley to the Pforzheimer Hütte mountain hut. The hike back follows the same route.

Stams - oak forest natural monument - Stadliger waterfall - Stams

This route takes you west, below the "Schigymnasium" school, to the "Eichenwald" oak forest. Just before the bridge over the Stamser Bach stream, turn off onto the nature trail and follow it uphill. At the next bridge, cross the Stamser Bach and you'll come to a labyrinth of paths. The route continues uphill from the upper end of the labyrinth and leads to a high-altitude trail. From there, the route turns west to join a forest road, which you continue to follow for quite a distance. At the first bend, the route continues straight on to the west and follows a flat path with beautiful panoramic views. When you come to the sign for the "Stadliger Wasserfall" (Stadlinger waterfall), take the narrow path that leads downhill to the waterfall and then continue between the moss-covered landslide blocks down into the valley. Finally, follow the paved road east, past the Sellrain-Silz power station, through the oak forest and back to the starting point.

Stamser Alm mountain hut

From the centre of Stams, follow the paved road through the village to the hamlet of Hauland. From there, join the forest road, which leads mostly uphill. Several quite steep sections and bends follow before the route flattens out and takes a straighter course. When you come to the Stamser Bach, cross the stream and then continue uphill parallel to the stream to the Stamser Alm mountain hut. Next to the hut is a Rococo chapel with a hunting lodge and a small lake.   The mountain hut Stamser Alm is temporarily closed!
